We've been doing this for so long, none of us can remember when it started. I do remember that first time we "progressed" between three houses, it snowed heavily and when my cheap shoes got wet, my feet ended up dyed black. Back then, we didn't know each other well and the kids were all little and we had to hire a babysitter. Now, the youngest kids go play video games at another house and they're old enough to babysit themselves, while the older ones have lives of their own and are no doubt slightly embarrassed by their parents' antics.
I can recall a few years ago when one or two participants fell asleep before the evening officially ended. I believe there was Irish Coffee and a very warm, cozy fire involved. Another year, we were all so completely burnt out we decided to put the kids down the basement and we just ate appetizers and drank cocktails. Other years, when none of the ladies felt like cooking or cleaning, we just went out to dinner. No matter where we end up, we always have a good time.
We're very blessed to have such good friends and look forward to many more progressive or non-progressive dinners...whatever works.
