Happy Birthday Sam!

Our little Sam turns 20 years old on Tuesday but we're celebrating today due to busy schedules and well, life I guess. He's downstairs watching the NASCAR race with Jeff at the moment, really, I'm not kidding. Where did I go wrong? NASCAR? What's next, wrestling? His buddy Matt has been waaay too much of an influence on him apparently!

Anyway, it's been a day of nostalgia for me. Joe and Will finally figured out how to copy our aging wedding video and burn it to DVD. It was just amazing to see Sam as an adorable 5 year old, give Jeff a rub-aroonie instead of a kiss at the end of the ceremony. That was the part that caused me to tear up!

So Happy Birthday (two days early) to my eldest. I love you so much!

Drinking Life-Pete Hamill As always, wonderful stuff from Mr. Hamill. I love the way he writes.
Weird Sisters-Eleanor Brown The story of 3 sisters and their Shakespeare scholar father, Really liked it!
Ireland-Frank Delaney Another Irish history novel but this one all about the tradition of story telling.
Bossypants-Tina Fey What can I say? I'm loving it.
Ghosts of Belfast-Stuart Neville Still on the Irish kick but this one is grittier.
The Forgotten Garden-Kate Morton LOVED it! My favorite novel in a long time.
1916 A Novel of the Irish Rebellion-Morgan Llywelyn I'm kind of obsessed with Irish history at the moment
Snow in August-Pete Hamill Loved this novel and want to read more by PH
Sin in the Second City-Karen Abott The true story of the most famous brothel in early 20th century Chicago
House Rules-Jodi Picoult Her books are always interesting and enjoyable
The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake-Aimee Bender Really different and I liked it a lot. My new book club meets in April and I'm looking forward to the discussion
Galway Bay-Mary Pat Kelly An interesting story of Irish diaspora with an Illinois connection
American Wife-Curtis Sittenfeld One of the best novels I read in 2010. At the end of it, I kind of liked W but really liked Laura. Sittenfeld's first novel, Prep, is worth a look too.
The Happiness Project-Gretchen Rubin Reading her book is a great way to start off the new year!
Loving Frank-Nancy Horan We just visited Frank Lloyd Wright's studio in Oak Park a few months ago. He was a genius but such a jerk! Fascinating read.
Fly Away Home-Jennifer Weiner Her novels are like a delicious treat. I eat them up quickly so enjoy them.
Scout, Atticus & Boo-Mary McDonagh Murphy This is a nice little collection of essays about the novel To Kill a Mockingbird. It's interesting to read famous folk's take on this iconic novel. and timely too since we read it this semester in Soph English.
Twenty Poems to Nourish Your Soul-Judith Valente & Charles Reynard I just keep revisiting this little book, written by a local judge.
Finn - Jon Clinch I love novels that take an existing piece of literature but look at it from a different angle. This novel presents the backstory of Pap, Huck Finn's nasty character of a father. The author manages to echo Twain's style without going overboard. Loving it!
Eat, Pray, Love - Elizabeth Gilbert For some reason I was reluctant to read this but I loved every minute of it. I'm both excited and hesitant to see the movie.
Hellraisers - Robert Sellers This is one of those books you pick up and read a chapter at a time. It's about Richard Burton, Richard Harris, Peter O'Toole and Oliver Reed and all their crazy, drunken exploits. Whew!
