After a busy 4th of July weekend, Jeff and I decided to take a little drive out to Mackinaw Vineyard. We've been talking about going out there for about two years but have never made it. Joe and Will did not want to join us, shocking, I know, so we grabbed our hats and the camera and took off!
However, before we left, I had to get a couple of shots of the deck and pergola, it just looks so lovely in the middle of the summer. We really enjoyed lighting the citronella candles last night (they worked for a little while) and talking and laughing the evening away with Patti, Paul and Bryan.
The winery is only about 15 miles west of Bloomington on Route 9. It's a very easy drive during the day...completely sober. After a few glasses of wine, in the dark, the drive might be a little different. I'll have to remember that.
It's a great spot and they host lots of concerts and other fun events throughout the year. This weekend, there is an outdoor showing of the documentary on the Kickapoo Festival (the Central Illinois version of Woodstock) from the early '70's that sounds like good time.
We walked around the property and pond and enjoyed a glass of wine on the big, wrap-around porch. The tasting room and pavilion sit at the top of a ridge so you can see for miles on a day like today. There is even an old, historic cemetery just past the pond..drinking wine and wandering around an old cemetery, does it get any better than that?!
