Boarding the plane and leaving the sunshine and 70 degree weather was difficult but...we missed the kids. Back to reality.
We arrived in Savannah Monday afternoon 3-24, and quickly got settled into our beautiful yet very comfortable room at the 1895 Inn. Our host Ed really treated us like family and we so enjoyed getting to know the other couples staying at the B&B.
Savannah is a walking city and we saw nearly all of the historic district on foot. We're hoping that all that walking balanced out the seafood, red wine and nightly stops at Leopold's Ice Cream Shop. The azaleas were in full bloom and the live oaks were dripping with Spanish Moss.
We visited Bonaventure Cemetery, a real treat if you've ever read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Even found a relative! We drove out to Tybee island one afternoon and I personally downed at least 18 oysters...I wasn't very good about sharing. Another evening we went on a Ghost Pub Tour that was so fun and interesting. A bartender convinced me to try her new concoction "Knock Out Punch" in honor of the resident ghost at that bar. It was a recipe that included a variety of liquors including grain alcohol! I limited myself to just one.
It was a wonderful get-away for us and a BIG thank you goes out to Ben & Leslie for taking care of Joe and Will for the week. The little boys had a great time with their cousins and Sam had a great time staying home by himself...and our house was all in one piece when we got home. That made Mom & Dad very happy :-)
